FINALLY it's raining a nice steady rain that is predicted to last all day! The Pond level is way down - at least a foot, probably more like 18 inches, which doesn't sound like a lot. But if you know the Pond, for the first time ever I can remember, one can walk on the earth between the Pond and the cottage porch supports!
I'm reminded of my father these days. I remember once finding one of his diaries written toward the end of his life where the only information he wrote was concerned with the weather. Why is it we are so absorbed with weather? Could it be from our heritage when human beings lived with the sun as their clock? Their activities and their food depended on the sunlight and rain that fell on their property?
At any rate, I love the rainy days when I feel perfectly justified in staying inside and reading a romance novel without any guilt for not "getting something done." Also a great day for baking cookies!
So, after yoga class this morning, it's back to the house for a long quiet day! An opportunity to easily be in the present moment.

New Furniture
Today is a new one beginning a week of absolutely beautiful fall weather. I'm inspired to write about where we are today. Both Frank and I are experiencing new aches and pains that mystify us. But, at the same time, we are so grateful for all the good things we enjoy - particularly living where we live enjoying the peace and quiet of The Pond. This little friend visits us occasionally just outside our porch window.
I have been experiencing much knee pain for several months now and am resigned to the fact that I must pay attention to it whether or not I like it. Tomorrow I'll begin work at Wellness Works with a trainer who hopefully can steer me onto a path of leg strength improvement. It's funny but I keep thinking things will clear up on their own, but finally will get some more help. I'm guessing it's arthritis, but then we all expect that at this age - hard to believe I'll be 85 in April. I can only be grateful that I am in such good health overall. Still, it's not fun to have what I call unreliable knees.
On the wonderful side, We had a new "extra firm" mattress and springs delivered yesterday, but the most exciting event is they also delivered a new chest-of-drawers and mirror to my bedroom. Believe it or not, I have been using a small one that was originally my boys' furniture - and they are now in their early 50s! I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to acquire one, but NOW I have it! Finally I can avoid storing clothes under the beds! Of course, the old one is still here - but removed to the utility room.
Enough for today - time to put clothes into my new furniture!
